To Know Him is to Trust Him

Morris L. Venden · April 30, 2026

The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those who trust in Him. Nah. 1: 7.

The question is: How can we believe? If God's work is for us to believe, how can we achieve it? How do we gain faith? How do we trust? Will we get it by forcing ourselves to do so?

There are two necessary ingredients in our relationship with other people in order to trust them. First: the person must be trustworthy. Second: we must know them. Generally, we do not trust someone before we know them. So, if the person is trustworthy, we trust them spontaneously.

In God we can fully trust. If we know Him, we will trust Him, and we will do so spontaneously. If we do not know Him, we will distrust Him. Wherever we see someone who gives evidence of distrusting God, we will realize that this person does not know God.

Thousands of human beings around the world today blame God for everything that happens. Even insurance companies call natural disasters “acts of God.” The only reason we distrust God is because we do not know Him.

So, how can we learn to trust in God? By becoming familiar with Him. God invites us to be more than just good people. He invites us to know Him, to experience His presence and power in our lives. This is Christianity.

Most church members today trust in what they do instead of seeking a personal relationship and friendship with God. According to recent surveys, only one in five dedicates some time daily to getting to know God better. This is like trying to produce apples without an apple tree. Without a constant relationship with God, there can be no genuine trust, nor fruit, nor true Christianity.
